The U.S. - China Housing Initiative was launched in July 1998 when President Clinton announced the establishment of the U.S. - China Residential Building Council in Shanghai.  The President called for the Initiative to promote new technologies and energy efficient materials to build sturdy and affordable homes.  U.S. resources and experience in the housing industry are essential in order to support the President's idea and to assist the Chinese government in their housing reform efforts.
