Summary
The Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism is an agency
of the government of the State of Hawaii (HDBEDT).
China's World Trade Organization membership, the upcoming Olympics, and other factors point to growth potential in the development and management of tourism and hospitality infrastructure. HDBEDT's objective is to help U.S. firms, particularly small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) to plan and to develop new integrated resorts; and to renovate, to restore, and to re-brand existing hotels. In order to accomplish this objective, HDBEDT will (1) help SMEs win contracts through outreach to SMEs, match-making, development of China/U.S. consortia, and development of an Internet clearinghouse for project opportunities; and (2) establish a self-supporting non-profit organization to continue the work after the award period ends.
