Summary
In 1989, the State of South Dakota established the South Dakota International Business Institute at Northern State University (SDIBI) to promote international trade.

Niche foreign markets exist for a modest number of South Dakota companies. In order to capitalize on these market niches, SDIBI will: (1) improve the websites of small- and medium-size enterprises to appeal to international audiences by adding internationally-used references such as INCO terms and HTS codes; (2) translate these websites into Spanish and Chinese; (3) register the sites with more than 300 overseas search engines; (4) capture and analyze data about website traffic; and (5) respond with direct mailings.
